The Eastern Cape is the only province in South Africa with all seven biomes (major vegetation types) coverage. The Eastern Cape is situated along the Southeastern coast of South Africa with an astonishing coastline lapped by the Indian Ocean. This coastline provides the province with a rich natural tourist attraction.

In general, the weather of the Eastern Cape is kind to visitors. Rarely reaching extremes except perhaps in the height of the Karoo summer, its nature depends on how much you move across the province’s expanse and into and out of different climatological zones. The winter (April-August) temperatures range from 7 ºC-20 ºC and in summer from 15 ºC-35 ºC.

The water quality of the Eastern Cape is of a very high quality and electrical costs are the second cheapest in the world.
Port Elizabeth boasts with an ideal setting for a Port while there are also great harbour facilities at East London. There are also three international airports situated at Port Elizabeth, East London and Umtata.

There is excellent agricultural and forestry potential in the Eastern Cape. The Karoo is an important sheep-farming area while the Langekloof valley in the south-west has many fruit orchards.
People in the former Transkei region depend on cattle, maize and sorghum farming. Coffee and tea are cultivated at Magwa while pineapples, chicory and dairy products are produced in the Alexandria-Grahamstown area.
The basis of the Eastern Cape fishing industry is squid, some recreational and commercial fishing for line fish and access to line-catches of hake.
