The Zulu Kingdom is a kaleidoscope of natural wonders – set against a majestic backdrop of sun, sea, mountains and sky.

This mighty Zulu Kingdom forms the East Coast of South Africa.  KwaZulu Natal stretches from Port Edward in the South northwards to the Mozambique boundary.  The Northern part of this region is typical African savanna with the magnificent Drakensberg mountain range in the West and enveloped with a warm subtropical coastline.

KwaZulu Natal is a summer-rainfall region with hot and humid temperatures averaging around 28 ºC.  The winters are warm, dry and clear with temperatures averaging at 23 ºC.  This region does get the occasional frost, as well as definite snow on the Drakensberg.

Two of South Africa’s main ports - The Port of Durban and Richard’s Bay – are strategically located on the major shipping routes, making it an ideal gateway to the domestic and international markets.

Durban International Airport has recently been upgraded and contends over a million passengers annually.  A well-developed rail infrastructure forms a large part of the national network.  The road network links the main centers.  The N2 and N3 are the busiest import and export routes in South Africa.

Sugar cane plantations form the mainstay of agriculture in KwaZulu Natal and are a large source of income.  Farmers in the hinterland concentrate mainly on vegetable, dairy and stock-farming.  This region is also a large producer of subtropical fruits like bananas.

Forestry also plays a major part in KwaZulu Natal’s economy.
