The North West, being the biggest producer of white maize in the country, is an important food basket in South Africa.
This region is known as the “Texas of South Africa” as it has some of the largest cattle herds in the world.
The Northern and Western parts of the province have many sheep farms, as well as cattle and game ranches. The Eastern and Southern parts are crop-growing regions that produce maize, sunflowers, tobacco, cotton and citrus fruits. The areas around Rustenberg and Brits are excellent for mixed-crop farming.
